Govt ordered to appoint dropped 27th BCS candidates

The High Court has directed the government to give appointments within three months to 169 civil service candidates, who passed the 27th BCS exams in 2005 but were later disqualified. The bench of justices Miftahuddin Chowdhury and Abu Bakar Siddiqui gave the order on Wednesday on three separate petitions by the 169 candidates. The High Court also ruled that the appointments of the successful candidates of a second round of the 27th Bangladesh Civil Service exams would be upheld.

Gen Siddique to coordinate spy agencies

The cabinet has decided to task the prime minister’s security adviser retired major general Tareq Ahmed Siddique with coordinating the intelligence agencies. The political section of the home ministry on Wednesday issued a circular on the cabinet decision.

CLIMATE CHANGE :PM calls for separate fund for LDCs, MVCs

The World Bank has asked Bangladesh to put on hold all local procurement activities under WB-financed projects since the amendments made to the Public Procurement Act (PPA) 2006 are not consistent with its procurement guidelines.

Govt employees to get pays under new scale from this Nov

The government is likely to announce the new pay scale for its employees today (Wednesday) increasing the maximum salary to Tk 40,000 from the existing Tk 25,000 and the lowest basic to Tk 4,100 from the existing Tk 2,300. The announcement will be given after holding a cabinet meeting to be held at the Prime Minister's Office with the prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. The finance ministry will place a proposal on the seventh pay scale at today's cabinet meeting for its approval.

Most of about 30,000 Bangladeshis living in Greece migrated through illegal way, but the Greek government now agreed to give a chance for their registration. Labour, Employment and Expatriates Welfare Minister Engineer Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain yesterday informed journalists about the development after his visit to Greece where he attended a four-day seminar on 'Global Forum on Migration and Development'. The Minister said his counterpart of Greece proposed to him to give a chance for registration of the workers to get legality.

Dhaka takes maritime dispute with Delhi to UN

Bangladesh has registered its objection with the United Nations to India’s claim over certain areas in the Bay of Bengal three months after a similar opposition lodged against Myanmar’s claim over sea waters. ‘We have submitted our objection to the maritime commission of the UN on October 29,’ Bangladesh’s permanent representative to the UN, MA Momen told New Age over telephone Monday evening. India submitted its claim on maritime boundary to the Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf in May 2009, one month ahead of its deadline.
