Zillur for OIC actions to tackle climate change, economic crisis

The president, Zillur Rahman, has called for concerted actions of the leaders of Muslim nations to face the challenges caused by climate change, food insecurity and the current economic crisis. ‘Our common objective is to build a strong, prosperous and self-reliant economy for the Muslim states, which needs collective and consolidated efforts,’ he said while addressing the Economic Summit of COMCEC (Standing Committee for Economic and Commercial Cooperation) under the Organisation of the Islamic Conference at Four Season hotel in Istanbul on Monday.

War crimes trial court site chosen

The government has decided to set up the proposed tribunal for holding the war crimes trials in a government building on 14, Abdul Gani Road near the Bangladesh Secretariat, and says that it intends to begin prosecution in two months.

Railway asked to recover its land from Mirza Abbas

A parliamentary committee yesterday asked Bangladesh Railway to recover about four acres of land near Kamalapur Railway Station which it said was "grabbed" by former housing minister and BNP leader Mirza Abbas. JS panel suggests independent railway ministry

A parliamentary panel on Sunday advised the government to establish a separate ministry for the railway, which now operates as a department under the communications ministry, to upgrade its infrastructure and services in a cost-effective manner. ‘We have unanimously suggested that the government turn the railway department into a full-fledged ministry for the sake of development of the sector,’ chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on communications ministry, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said after a meeting of the panel.
