BCB to introduce four more awards

The Bangladesh Cricket Board will introduce four new awards when it will re-launch the Award Night after a gap of three years on December 27, a senior BCB official said on Monday. Apart from the best cricketer, best batsman, best bowler, emerging player, best journalist (print media), best journalist (electronic media) and best photo journalist, the BCB will honour the best women cricketer and best umpire, best batsman in domestic cricket and best bowler in domestic cricket this year, said Jalal Yunus, the chairman of the BCB’s media committee.

Bangladesh to face India in WC opener

India will clash with Bangladesh in the opening match of the 2011 World Cup in Dhaka on February 19, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Monday. The first match takes place two days after the opening ceremony of the 14-nation showpiece at the same venue in Dhaka on February 17, according to the schedule released by the ICC here. The final of the 43-day tournament, being co-hosted by India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, will take place at the renovated Wankhede stadium in India’s financial capital of Mumbai on April 2.

BCB urged to revive HP unit

The senior cricketers and the members of the national team management committee have requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board to reactivate the High Performance Unit so that they can continue practice even if they are left out of the side. The request was made when they met the BCB president, AHM Mustafa Kamal, and the senior officials on Saturday after completion of a successful series against Zimbabwe. The BCB had closed down the HP unit, once a breeding ground for the upcoming players, in late 2005 and never showed any interest in reactivating it after it had established an academy in June 2006.

A fairytale end to a successful year
