TIB urges govt to ensure ACC independence

TIB has expressed deep concern over the proposals finalised by the cabinet committee to reform the Anti-Corruption Commission saying 'the proposals are not consistent with the commitment of the government for ensuring independence and effectiveness of the commission'. Transparency International Bangladesh submitted a set of 18 proposals to the government in this regard, said a TIB statement.

Final hearing for quashing Hasina Niko case starts

The High Court (HC) on Wednesday started final hearing on a petition filed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for quashing the proceedings against her in the Niko corruption case filed during the caretaker government. An HC bench adjourned the hearing on the petition till Thursday.

2 REB officials caught while taking bribe

A team of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) caught two officials of Rural Electrification Board red-handed in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet while they were taking Tk 70,000 bribe from a businessman yesterday afternoon. The arrested officials are Md Mofazzal Hossain and Dilip Chandra Chowdhury, general manager and deputy general manager respectively of Sylhet Palli Bidyut Samity-II. The REB officials have been serving on deputation at the samity in Jaintapur upazila.
