HC gets 15-20 new judges by Feb

After the appointment of new chief justice, the government is now going to appoint some 15 to 20 new judges to the High Court (HC) division of the Supreme Court. On December 15 the government appointed Justice Md Tafazzul Islam as chief justice, for present Chief Justice MM Ruhul Amin is going into retirement on December 22.

Appointment of law secy illegal: SC

The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld the High Court verdict that declared illegal the appointment of Kazi Habibul Awal in the office of secretary to the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. A full bench of the Appellate Division passed the verdict after dismissing two appeals filed by Habibul Awal and the government.

Appointment of over 4,000 doctors soon

The government proposes to frame 'First class (non-cadre medical) appointment rules of health directorate 2009' to appoint 4,247 doctor as medical officers on an ad-hoc basis for filling the vacant posts in the district and upazila health complexes.

Govt ordered to appoint dropped 27th BCS candidates

The High Court has directed the government to give appointments within three months to 169 civil service candidates, who passed the 27th BCS exams in 2005 but were later disqualified. The bench of justices Miftahuddin Chowdhury and Abu Bakar Siddiqui gave the order on Wednesday on three separate petitions by the 169 candidates. The High Court also ruled that the appointments of the successful candidates of a second round of the 27th Bangladesh Civil Service exams would be upheld.

The High Court today directed the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University authorities and the government to maintain status quo on the cancellation of appointment of seven doctors of the university. The HC also issued a rule upon the government and BSMMU authorities to explain within four weeks why the decision cancelling the appointments of the seven doctors should not be declared illegal.
