3 Pak militants held in Dhaka

Three Pakistani militants, who were plotting to attack US embassy and Indian High Commission in Dhaka, were arrested in the capital early Friday. Detective Branch of Police, which arrested the militants in the capital, identified them as members of militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiyeba (LeT).

Aug 21 Attack :DCC councillor Arif shown held

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday showed Dhaka City Corporation ward councillor Ariful Islam Arif, also a city unit BNP leader, arrested in connection with the August 21 grenade attack case. Second Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Habibur Rahman Siddique granted CID's petition for showing Arif arrest in the case. The court fixed the date of hearing for the bail on Sunday. The CID also sought a 10-day remand for the ward-53 councillor.

Bomb attack on Taposh :Bazlul Huda's relative arrested

Police arrested a relative of Banagbandhu murder convict Bazlul Huda in Chuadanga early Wednesday in connection with the bomb attack on Awami League lawmaker Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh. The arrested was identified as Ataul Huda, 38 son of late Rabiul Huda, reports our Kushtia correspondent. Rabiul Huda was cousin of Bazlul Huda, police said.

Crackdown on JMB: Six activists arrested from 3 dists : RAB will continue to contain religious militancy: DG

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Sunday night arrested six members of banned Islamist outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in separate drives in Narayanganj, Jamalpur and Khulna amid a latest countrywide hunt to stall their resurgence. Of those arrested two were Majlis-e-Shura (Top-decision making body) members including Mehedy Hasan Abir, chief of JMB's southern region. Another Shura member was identified as Jahirul Islam alias Jahid alias Badal, 27, official sources said.

Former state minister for home Lutfuzzaman Babar was shown arrested in August 21, 2004 grenade attack case. First Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Dhaka Ehsanul Haque passed the order following a petition submitted by the investigation officer of the case.

Bomb attack on Tapash :Major Dalim’s younger brother arrested

As the home ministry ordered a manhunt to bring the perpetrators of the bomb attack on ruling party lawmaker Fazle Noor Tapash yesterday to book, police swung into action questioning bystanders and others present on or around the place of occurrence. The police detained Swapan, younger brother of a Bangabandhu murder case convict Shariful Haque Dalim, from Gulshan police station area on Thursday evening.

Garment owner arrested for not paying workers’ salaries

The police Friday night arrested Ziaul Amin, owner of Seejon Sweater Factory at Savar on the outskirt of the capital, at his house at Gulshan in connection with a case filed against on charges of not paying four months’ salary to his employees. The Ashulia police officer-in-charge, Monwar Hossain, told New Age, ‘We arrested Ziaul Amin at his house, 11, Road 62 at Gulshan about 10:00pm on Friday in connection with a case filed against him on charges of not paying his employees.’

An anti-militancy team of Special Branch of police arrested seven top leaders of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in the last couple of days in Rajshahi.

18 Myanmar citizens arrested in Bandarban

Police in separate raids at Alikadam and Balaghata areas of Bandarban arrested 18 Myanmar citizen including two children and four women this morning. Alikadam police station sources said 12 Myanmar citizen including two children and four women were arrested from Panbazar and Amtali villages this morning. They were handed over to the BDR for pushing them back to Myanmar.
