14-party leaders vow to revive Mohajote

The leaders of the 14 party alliance yesterday vowed to revive the grand alliance combined with all the pro-liberation political parties for defeating the anti-liberation and communal forces in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The top leaders of the alliance categorically said that they would work together under the banner of grand alliance to defeat the BNP-Jamaat alliance in December election by all means.

AL observes 'Sukrana Dibas’

The ruling Awami League yesterday observed "Sukrana Dibas" in the city and elsewhere in the country to express gratitude to Almighty Allah following the historic verdict of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upholding the capital punishment of the killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family members.

'End of a disgrace' :AL hails verdict

The ruling Awami League (AL) has welcomed and expressed satisfaction over the Supreme Court verdict in Bangabandhu murder case. The party announced a countrywide programme of milad mahfil and special prayers today at all mosques, temples, pagodas, churches and other places of worship.

AL supporters take to streets

Awami League leaders and supporters, defying party instruction, took to the streets on hearing the Supreme Court verdict on Thursday. AL backed lawyers were also seen chanting the slogan 'Jai Bangla Jai Bangabandhu' at the Supreme Court premises. Home minister Sahara Khatun has asked all party leaders and activists across the country to remain calm and not to stage any processions and rallies.

Stay in party offices on Nov 19, AL tells leaders of all units

The Awami League high command yesterday instructed the leaders of all its units and associate bodies to stay in their respective party offices on the day of the verdict in the appeal hearing in Bangabandhu Murder Case on November 19.

AL constitution still not RPO-proper

The Election Commission (EC) yesterday decided to ask the ruling Awami League (AL) to further amend the party constitution as it still contains provisions in conflict with the Representation of the People Order (RPO). It also decided to ask three other parties--Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), Samyabadi Dal and Jatiya Party (JP-Manju) -- to include new provisions in their constitutions to meet the criteria for registration, EC officials said.

AL observes Nov 7 as FF killing day

The ruling Awami League and its front organisations observed November 7 as the day of killing of freedom fighters. Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote arranged a rally and formed a human chain in front of Awami League central office demanding trial of the killers of freedom fighters on November 7. Ministers of the government and party leaders took part in the programmes.

AL, not BNP, pursues politics of killing, says Delwar

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary-general, Khandaker Delwar, alleged that the Awami League, not BNP, pursues the politics of killing freedom-fighters and opposition leaders. He said that the Awami League is attempting to commemorate November 7 as 'freedom-fighter killing day' to rob it of its real significance and thus make it meaningless.
