কোনো দেশের প্রধান রাজনৈতিক দলের জাতীয় কাউন্সিল উৎসবমুখর পরিবেশে হলো কি না তা বিবেচ্য বিষয় নয়, যদিও আমাদের মিডিয়া উৎসবমুখরতাকেই বেশি মূল্য দেয়, কর্মমুখরতার চেয়ে। কাউন্সিলে দলের নীতি-আদর্শ ও কর্মকান্ড নিয়ে ছোটবড় নেতারা খোলামেলা আলোচনা ও নেতৃত্বের ভুমিকার চুলচেরা বিচার-বিশ্লেষণ করতে পারলেন কি না সেটাই গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। দলীয় কাউন্সিল কোনো বউ-ভাতের অনুষ্ঠান নয়, জেয়াফত বা মেজবানিও নয়; সেখানে অংশগ্রহণকারীদের বিরিয়ানিটা খাসা হয়েছিল কি না, অথবা মাছ ভাজাটা মচমচে ছিল কি না, সেটা ধর্তব্যের বিষয় নয়। আসল ব্যাপার হলো, সেখানে দলের অতীত, বর্তমান ও ভবিষ্যৎ নিয়ে কী বিতর্ক হলো। আরও বড় ব্যাপার, কাউন্সিলরদের ভোটে কোন নেতা বাদ পড়লেন, আর কারা পেলেন নতুন নেতৃত্ব।
The frustrated "reformist" leaders, who have been sidelined from the policy making body of ruling Awami League, are maintaining close contact with each other. Most of them, including stalwarts like Amir Hossain Amu, Abdur Razzak, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta and Abdul Jalil, are now staying outside Dhaka.
