The United States believes there is a terrorist threat in Bangladesh as Washington gets disturbing indications, US Ambassador James Moriarty said today.
“We do have disturbing indications. There continues to be threat in Bangladesh and my government does believe that there is a threat,” he said at a Meet-the-Reporters programme at Dhaka Reporters Unity this afternoon.
Local Government and Rural Development Minister Syed Ashraful Islam today said the government's failure to root out militancy would result in the condition Pakistan faced.
Indiscriminate lifting of earth from the banks of the Naboganga by local land grabbers is threatening the river and its surroundings. Everyday a huge quantity of earth is sold by cutting the banks of the river under the nose of district administration.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday blamed the previous BNP-led four-party alliance government for the prevailing power and water crises.

Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said on Friday her government was working to uproot Islamic militancy to strengthen democracy in the country.
The Bangladeshi government has welcomed moves by a US congressional panel to remove it from a list of countries deemed to violate religious freedoms.
The decision is a vindication of the new government's determination to protect minorities, a spokesman in the prime minister's office said.
Some 300 houses were damaged and 40 people were injured in a nor'wester in Sunamganj district Friday after a countrywide heat wave swept the country, locals said.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Zia Uddin, however, said the extent of losses were yet to be determined.
The 10-minute storm swept a number of villages under Doarabazar Upazila, Narasinghpur Union Parishad chairman Shamsul Haq Namu said.
