Bashundhara chief asked for statement in Tk 200cr defamation suit

A Dhaka court on Thursday asked Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and other defendants to submit a written statement by April 22 this year in connection with a civil defamation suit filed against them seeking Tk 200 crore in damages.

Prothom Alo Editor and Publisher Matiur Rahman, and Chairman and Managing Director of Mediastar Ltd and Transcom Group Latifur Rahman filed a civil defamation suit on Sunday with the 4th Joint District Judge's Court of Dhaka against Bashundhara Group, seeking Tk 200 crore in damages, according to a media release. Mediastar Ltd is the owning company of the Prothom Alo.

Owners protest land grabbing by Bashundhara

Around two hundred landowners this morning staged demonstrations in protest against grabbing of around 600 bighas of land by Bashundhara Group at Chunkutia mouja in Keraniganj upazila, Dhaka. They also formed a human chain on Peghoria-Khejurbagan road near Peghoria bus stand at about 12:30pm demanding immediate stoppage of earth filling by the group.

Bashundhara Group Wednesday filed a General Diary against eight including the editors and publishers of Prothom Alo and Shamokal newspapers. The complaint says the accused are involved in setting fire to the Bashundhara City on Mar 13, which left seven dead.
