BTCL adds 1.12 lakh subscribers in one year: Razu

Post and Telecommunications Minister Raziuddin Ahmed Razu told the House yesterday that after the present government coming to power, the state-run Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Ltd (BTCL) was able to add 1.12 lakh more subscribers in the last one year till January 2010.

Tk 16.4m BTCL cable stolen in one year

Telephone cables worth about Tk 16.4 million of Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) were stolen in the city in the last one year. A total of 25 general diaries (GDs) were lodged with different police stations in this connection, BTCL Director (Maintenance) Rafiqul Matin told the BSS Saturday.

BTCL to set up digital exchange in unions

Bangladesh Telecommunication Limited will set up 200-line digital exchange and optical fibre in each union of the country. The primary cost of the project has been estimated at about Tk 5,000 crore, managing director of BTCL ASM Khabiruzzaman told the news agency on Thursday. He said the ministry of telecommunications had taken the project to bring one crore subscribers under land phone and Internet network by 2012.

BTCL’s share of fixed-line market is in decline

The govt owned Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL)’s share of the fixed-line market is in decline, as it faces growing competition from rivals, which total 11 operators.

BTCL slashes call service rates

Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd has slashed a number of phone service charges. The new monthly charges have come into effect, a BTCL press release said on Wednesday. The monthly charges for abbreviating dialling services has been reduced from Tk 100 to Tk 20, call record from Tk 300 to Tk 50, call waiting from Tk 200 to Tk 20, call wake up service from Tk 300 to Tk 50.

BTCL launches unlimited broadband package

Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd (BTCL) will be providing unlimited broadband internet service for as low as Tk 300 per month. According to a statement on Monday, subscribers will be able to talk and browse the internet (unlimited browsing) using a single ADSL connection.

BTCL could not attract clients

BTCL has failed to attract clients despite free land phone connection. It is learnt that the number of the clients is less than the connectivity capacity which the officials hold shortage of manpower and technical glitches responsible.

BTCL in doldrums, but still upbeat

State-owned BTCL has hit the doldrums, unable to provide new land phone connections in most metropolitan areas including Dhaka, but still has lofty plans. There are ten private sector operators providing land phone services across the country apart from BTCL. Together, the state-run and private companies provide just 1,571,748 land phone connections across a country with a population of over 150 million.

BTCL broadband fails to click

The number of BTCL customers could not reach even 1,000 though the high-speed broadband internet service was launched seven months ago. To increase the number of customers, the state-owned Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd (BTCL), has now introduced three new packages and reduced charges for its other packages.
