Babar sued for Tk 2.65cr tax dodge

The National Board of Revenue on Sunday filed a case against detained former state minister for home Lutfozzaman Babar for dodging Tk 2.65 crore income tax from 1999-2000 to 2008-09 fiscal years as director of Master Electronics Industry Limited. Syed Zakir Hossain, deputy tax commissioner of the NBR, filed the case with the Senior Special Judge’s Court, Dhaka. Judge ANM Bashir Ullah of is likely to hold hearing on the case at 2:30pm.

Police file case against RUET students

A case has been filed with the Motihar Police Station on Saturday, over a clash between the police and students of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology on Friday. Tofazzal Hossain, officer in charge of the station, said that inspector Arifuzzaman filed the case as the plaintiff. However he refused to divulge the number or identity of students accused.

JCD demands withdrawal of case

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on Wednesday demanded withdrawal of the case filed against eight leaders of the organisation over the Monday's infighting at Dhaka University. Senior Assistant Secretary of JCD Hayder Ali Lelin at a press briefing at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh made the demand terming the case false and politically motivated.

SQ Chy sues Sahara for calling him war criminal

BNP standing committee member Salauddin Quader Chowdhury on Tuesday filed a case against Home Minister Sahara Khatun for calling him war criminal. The BNP lawmaker filed the case in the morning with the Executive Magistrate's Court, Dhaka, but the hearing is due to hold at about 1:00pm.

The wife of a slain freedom fighter filed a case against 36 alleged Razakars in Bagerhat on Monday, on charges of murdering freedom fighters, looting and arson during the Liberation War in 1971. The accused include top-ranking Jamaat-e-Islami leader Maulana Abul Kalam Muhammad Yousuf.

Jalil unwilling to talk now

Embattled ruling Awami League MP Abdul Jalil, against whom a Dhaka court issued an arrest warrant in a case on charges of income tax dodge on Thursday, is not willing to speak about the matter. An aide at his Gulshan residence, 'Kamrul' told bdnews24.com, when contacted in the evening: "He (Jalil) told him that he didn't want to speak right now."
