Bagerhat SP closed after bid to grab farmers' land

Bagerhat superintendent of police has been closed to the Police Headquarters following allegations against him of making a bid to grab farmers' land in Gopalganj-Bagerhat border area. Mizanur Rahman has been asked to report to the headquarters in Dhaka on Saturday, Public Relations Officer of police Quamrul Ahsan told The Daily Star.

Comilla Medical College closed as BCL groups clash

Comilla Medical College was Thursday declared closed until February 12 following BCL factional clash that left at least seven activists wounded on Wednesday night. The students were asked to vacate the residential halls by 6:00pm to ward off further clash. Campus sources said the clash on Wednesday night began when a BCL faction led by Biva attacked the rival group at Hall No. 1 with sticks leaving seven activists wounded.

Khulna Medical College was closed for indefinite period on Monday as a sequence of sporadic clashes between two factional units of the Bangladesh Chhatra League. The medical college academic council took the decision at an emergency meeting around 4:00pm and also asked the students to vacate its two halls--one for male and another for female--by 6:00 in this evening.

8 RMG units closed unlawfully in 3 months

Owners closed at least eight garment factories in Dhaka city and its adjacent areas in last three moths allegedly without maintaining the factory laws. Labour leaders claimed that several thousand garment workers were thrown out of jobs and deprived of wage and allowance arrears due to abrupt closures. The National Alliance for Protection of Garments Workers and Industries leader Abul Hossain said the owners had no right to close their factories before clearing workers’ dues.

Comilla University was declared closed for nine days from Wednesday amid raging violence as clashes between the activists of Chhatra League and Islami Chhatra Shibir on the campus left 25 injured. Schools shut amid swine flu panic

Different English medium schools in the capital have been closed today amid fear of the rising number of swine flu infected cases. As precaution against the spread of swine flu, authorities of Scholastica School issued a notice today saying the school will remain close until further notice. City's Sunbeams School was also declared closed for indefinite period today.
