PADMA BRIDGE TENDER INVITATION :Govt may miss deadline
Tue February 9, 2010 - 3:51am BdSTThe government and the lenders are at loggerheads over the tender process of the multi-purpose Padma Bridge which might make the former miss the proposed deadline in February for inviting international bidders, said officials. The communications ministry, the main implementing agency of the $2.4 billion dollar project, has prepared a single tender for both the rail and road portions of the bridge. But the Japan International Cooperation Agency, one of the four major lenders, has demanded separate tenders for the two-tier bridge with a four-lane road on the top and a broad-gauge railway track below.
