The participation of the main opposition BNP in the Bhola3 by-election has become uncertain due to “massive slide” in law and order in the constituency over the last couple of weeks. Even BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, who had a plan to visit the area, may change her decision due to the “changed situation” since the seat fell vacant.
The election of Dhaka University Teachers` Association (DUTA) will be held today (Wednesday). Candidates from both group- White Panel belonging to the BNP-Jamaat and Blue Panel belonging to the Awami League- are now busy campaigning for the last moment. Prof Dalim Chandra Barman, the Election Commissioner, said some 1,548 teachers are expected to cast their votes in the election. He said the election would begin at 10:00am and it will be continued till 2:00pm.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dr ATM Shamsul Huda here on Sunday said, election to the Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) will be held in March and the municipalities in May next year. He also said, election to the Union Parishad may be held in September-October. He, however, said no date has yet been finalized or announced but we are doing some projections in this regard.
