Trade with German crosses Euro 2 billion mark

Trade between Bangladesh and Germany has increased by 16 percent in the first eleven months of 2009, defying the global economic downturn. The bilateral trade volume surpassed Euro 2.1 billion (equivalent to US$ 3.15 billion) during the period according to the German Federal Bureau of Statistics. The trade surplus of Bangladesh amounted to Euro 1.6 billion (US$ 2.4 billion), said a German Embassy press release here yesterday.

Mosud Mannan made new envoy to Germany

The government has appointed career diplomat Mosud Mannan as Bangladesh's next ambassador to Germany, the foreign ministry said in a statement Monday. He will be the first Bangladesh envoy to Germany in two years as the post of ambassador there has been lying vacant since the retirement of M Rahim.

Bangladesh is going to first-ever crocodile export next month as the country’s lone croc farm has finally obtained permission from the concerned authorities to this end. ‘We have finally got the permission from the Department of Forest on January 21 that paved the way for our croc export,’ Mushtaq Ahmed, Managing Director and CEO of Reptile Farm Ltd told the news agency Friday.

China passes Germany as top world exporter

China has surpassed Germany as the world’s leading exporter, trade figures released on Friday by the German national statistics office showed. In the 11 months from January to November, Chinese exports were worth a total of $1.07 trillion, while German data showed that exports from Europe’s biggest economy amounted to 734.6 billion euros, or $1.05 trillion.

Bangladesh eyes US$ 2.8b export to Germany

Bangladesh is expected to export traditional and non-traditional items worth US $ 2.8 billion to Germany this year, 0.3 billion US dollar more than the last year. President of Bangladesh German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BGCCI) M Saiful Islam said the business body envisaged Germany would import goods worth US $ 420 to 450 million during the same period.
