Tickets slip into black market

Hundreds of people are queuing at bus, launch and train stations every day for advance tickets for home, but most are returning empty-handed as tickets vanished from counters much ago. Disgruntled passengers said tickets could be traced only to black market in exchange for rates almost double the regular prices.

Tuku visits Azad after release on bail

State minister for home Shamsul Haque Tuku visited Azad Group chairman Abul Kalam Azad at home, after the latter's release on bail Wednesday after days of drama stemming from an assault and attempted murder case filed against the businessman by a CID officer last week. Azad's lawyer said he was released in the evening from Dhaka Central Jail.

Khaleda wants removal of home minister

The BNP chairperson, Khaleda Zia, on Tuesday demanded the removal of the home minister in the interest of a fair and neutral investigation of the killing in the Bangladesh Rifles headquarters and slated limiting the terms of reference of the committee formed to investigate the incidents.

Dhaka-Kolkata train service deal to be signed April 10-11

No compromise on security issues, says home secretary

The renewal of the agreement on the Dhaka-Kolkata passenger train service is expected to be signed on April 10 or 11 in Dhaka as Bangladesh and India have made preparations to commission the Maitree Express on April 14.
