5 hurt in Victoria college BCL clash

Five people were injured in a factional clash of Bangladesh Chhatra League on Comilla Victoria Government College campus at Dharmapur on Saturday. Campus sources said the clash broke out between the supporters of Jasim Khan and Azim Khan Jewel around 12noon over establishing supremacy on the campus.

Violence at trade fair: 50 hurt

Students of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University at Agargaon in Dhaka vandalised 62 cars on Friday after they clashed with the police over entry to Dhaka International Trade Fair. The university's proctor, students and policemen were among at least 50 injured. The police said they had to use rubber bullets and tear gas shells to bring the situation under control when violence broke out in the evening.

30 hurt in BCL infighting over 'admission trade'

At least 30 people were injured in a clash between two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League, one from Jagannath University and the other from Kabi Nazrul Government College over alleged admission trade on Thursday. A leader of BCL Kabi Nazrul college said their rivals exploded two locally made bombs during the clash.

7 killed, 30 hurt in picnic bus fire

Seven people were burned to death and over 30 others injured as a CNG-run picnic bus caught fire following a road accident at Manurtek in the district town Friday morning. The deceased were identified as Milon Barua, 50, Happy Barua, 55, Rupom Barua, 35, Shova Barua, 50, and Badi Barua, 35. The two others would not be identified.

300 ship breaking workers killed, 1000 hurt in 4 years

At least 300 ship breakers were killed since 2006 in the country in different accidents which were reportedly caused in absence of proper regulatory measures. Explosions often occur while breaking ships, but most them go unnoticed. It has been alleged that most of the workers do their jobs without the necessary protection.

Opposition chief whip hurt in city road crash

Opposition Chief Whip Zainul Abedin Farroque sustained severe injuries in a road accident in the city’s Gulshan area Saturday afternoon. According to family sources, Farroque suffered wounds in his head when a bus rammed into his private car at Gulshan-2 around 5:00pm. He was admitted to United Hospital in Gulshan.

Minister for law, justice and parliamentary affairs Barrister Shafique Ahmed said that the government would not pass any law that may hurt the religious feelings of people. The law minister further said that the constitution of Bangladesh ensured equal right for all irrespective of gender and the government would repeal all the laws that create discrepancy between man and woman.
