Bangladesh Nirjatan Protirod Society yesterday formed a human chain at Muktangan in the city demanding the release of Iraqi journalist Muntajar-Al-Jaidi who threw shoes to the president of United States George W Bush.

Awami League candidate in Sherpur-1 (Sadar) constituency Atiur Rahman Atique who once introduced himself to voters as the son of a poor mother is no more poor.

After being elected lawmaker for two consecutive terms Atique is now wealthy. In the upcoming parliament election he will spend Tk 10 lakh from his own fund.

Journalist killed, in road accident

A journalist was killed and two others were injured as a minibus rammed a CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying them in front of Government Azizul Haque College in the district town yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Ainul Haque, 40, a staff reporter of Bogra-based Dainik Muktabarta and district committee member of Awami Jubo League.

Whether politics is guided by morals or not is a moot point. But India has proved that democracy knows no morals. We have fiercely flaunted before the world, particularly our neighbours, oscillating between dictatorship and democracy of sorts, that we have the democratic system in position. But when the time came to prove it, we were found wanting.
