Young and old alike observed The World Friendship Day yesterday amid fanfare throughout the country as elsewhere around the world.

Youths and students of different educational institutions in the city celebrated the day by exchanging flowers and other attractive gifts among them.

Lalitokala Kendra, Pabna observed Rabindra-Nazrul Jayatni with much festivity recently. A discussion and cultural programme was held at Pabna Bonomali Auditorium last Friday.<

Bangladesh Chhatra Union (BCU), a left leaning student organisation, observed its 56th anniversary by holding colourful procession and rally at the Dhaka University campus yesterday.

The BCU, established in 1952, brought out a procession from Modhu`s canteen after placing wreath at the Raju monument in the morning and held a rally in front of DUCSU building.

Awami League will stage countrywide token hunger strike on April 29 to press for its five-point demand that envisages unconditional release of detained party chief Sheikh Hasina.

This is going to be Awami League's first agitation programme since the state of emergency was imposed on January 11 last year.
