দ্রব্যমূল্য বৃদ্ধির প্রভাব নিয়ে পরিচালিত এক গবেষণায় দেখা গেছে, গত এক-দেড় বছরে প্রায় তিন কোটি মানুষ নতুন করে দারিদ্র্যসীমার নিচে নেমে গেছে। আগে খাদ্য গ্রহণের ক্ষমতার বিচারে মোট জনসংখ্যার ৪০ শতাংশ বা ছয় কোটি মানুষ দারিদ্র্যসীমার নিচে বলে ধরা হতো। বর্তমানে তা বৃদ্ধি পেয়ে নয় কোটিতে ঠেকেছে। এর মধ্যে চার কোটি মানুষই চরম দারিদ্র্যসীমার নিচে বসবাস করছে।
