আশি'র দশকের শেষের দিকে টিম বার্নার্স-লি যে ওয়েব (Web) নিয়ে কাজ শুরু করেছিলেন, সেই ওয়েব যে আজকে এমন পর্যায়ে এসে দাঁড়াবে সেটা তিনি নিজেই ভেবেছিলেন কিনা সন্দেহ আছে। ওয়েব প্রযুক্তি দিনদিন সমৃদ্ধ হচ্ছে, আমাদের জীবনের যাবতীয় প্রয়োজন মেটানোর প্রায় সবকিছুই এখন ওয়েবএ পাওয়া যায়। মানুষের সাথে মানুষের এতো সহজ যোগা্যোগ এবং তথ্যের আদান-প্রদান পৃথিবীর ইতিহাসে আগে কখনো হয়নি।

Web start-up unveils semantic Wikipedia search tool

Powerset on Sunday unveiled tools for searching Wikipedia that use conversational phrasing instead of keywords, marking the first step of its challenge to established Web search services such as Google. Powerset's technology breaks down the meaning of words and sentences into related concepts, freeing users from always needing to type the exact words they want to find.

ইন্টারনেটে শিশুদের নিয়ে তৈরি করা অশ্লীল ছবির ওয়েবসাইট আছে প্রায় এক কোটি ৪০ লাখ। ১০ লাখেরও বেশি শিশুর ছবি রয়েছে এসব সাইটে। আরও ভয়ঙ্কর তথ্য হলো− এর সঙ্গে যুক্ত এক লাখের মতো অবৈধ ব্যবসায়ী। কিছুদিন আগে ঢাকায় অনুষ্ঠিত একটি আন্তর্জাতিক সেমিনারে এ চিত্র তুলে ধরা হয়েছিল। এ ভয়াবহ অবস্থা জানার পর স্বাভাবিকভাবে প্রশ্ন উঠেছে, এ অপরাধ নিয়ন্ত্রণে কতটা প্রস্তুত বাংলাদেশ?
