To observe the 107th birth anniversary of legendary folk singer Abbasuddin Ahmed as well as 118th death anniversary of mystic Lalon Shah, Bangladesh Loko Sangeet Parishad (BLSP) arranged a discussion and musical programme at the Shawkat Osman Memorial Auditorium, Central Public Library on October 28.
The programme was BLSP's 92nd monthly musical programme. Members of the organisation rendered verses of Lalon and folk songs popularised by Abbasuddin at the programme.
A discussion was held prior to the musical soiree. Veteran folk singer Md. Hafizur Rahman; Nazrul researcher Dr. Rajib Humayun and noted folk artiste and founder of BLSP Indra Mohan Rajbangshi spoke at the discussion. Akhter Ahmed Chowdhury, convener, BLSP presided over the programme.
Members of the organisation later performed songs of Lalon including "Manush bhojley shonar," "Tin pagol-er holo mela," "Jaat gelo," "Khanchar bhitor achin pakhi," "Manush guru nistha jar" and "Jeikhaney Shair baramkhana."
Among songs that were made famous by Abbasuddin, artistes rendered "Mayurpankhi nauka aamar," "Prano shokhirey," "Nodir kul nai," "Thaktey parghatatey," "Aamar haar kala korlam rey" and "Oki garial bhai."
Among the members of the organisation, Shayanto Khan, Sabina Yasmin, Laily Begum, A.K. Azad, Santosh Kumar Das, Chanchala Das Shathi, S.M. Mesbahuddin, Mahtabuddin and Shyamol Kumar Paul performed at the programme.
The programme was dedicated to the recently deceased Lalon researcher Dr. Khandakar Riazul Haque.
