Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia's concert now Oct 23

Flute maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia will now perform in a solo concert at Dhaka Club on October 23 as his scheduled programme for this evening has been postponed.

Talking to the media, Dhaka Club President Sadat Hossain Selim said Pandit Chaurasia will perform in the evening on next Friday as he could not arrive in Dhaka due to flight disruptions in India. In association with the event management group Web Entertainment Ltd, Dhaka Club is organising the event.

Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia was born in Allahabad, India in 1938. His father was a wrestler, who wanted Chaurasia to follow his footsteps. Chaurasia has said that he takes advantage of his wrestling training as it gives him immense stamina and lung power that are the hallmarks of his flute playing. He started as a classical vocalist at the age of 15. Later, he switched to playing the flute under the tutelage of Pandit Bholanath Prasanna of Varanasi.

Chaurasia is considered to be a rare combination of innovator and traditionalist. He has expanded the expressive possibilities of the bansuri through his masterful techniques. Apart from classical music, Chaurasia has made a mark as a music director in Bollywood along with Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, forming a group called Shiv-Hari. He has also collaborated with various world musicians in experimental cross-cultural performances, including the fusion group Shakti. Chaurasia received the ‘Padma Bhushan’ in 1992.
