Dhaka, Sep 13 (bdnews24.com)—Khaleda Zia will head BNP for life, party leaders decided Saturday in a standing committee meeting, just two days after her release from jail.
Khaleda called the 'urgent' meeting of the party's top policymaking body, beginning at 4.30pm, to discuss a schedule and agenda for BNP's planned dialogue with the government among other urgent issues stemming from Khaleda's release, a party official said.
The meeting okayed the appointment of Khandaker Delwar Hossain as general secretary of the party and approved his decisions during Khaleda's detention, Delwar himself told reporters after the meeting.
The BNP leader said committee members also decided that last year's controversial Oct 29 standing committee meeting was illegal and annulled its decisions.
Standing committee members on Saturday demanded national polls ahead of upazila polls and expressed concern at high prices and rising unemployment.
The number of standing committee members totals 11, including Khaleda, M Saifur Rahman, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Abdul Matin Chowdhury, Khandaker Delwar Hossain, AR Goni, Chowdhury Tanvir Ahmed Siddiqui, Moudud Ahmed, Khandaker Mahbubuddin Ahmad, Mahbubur Rahman and M Shamsul Islam.
Khandaker Mosharraf and Moudud are currently behind bars.
The last standing committee meeting on Oct 29 was held amid intra-party factionalism at Saifur's Gulshan home, while Khaleda was still behind bars.

১। আমি যা ভেবেছিলাম, স্থায়ী কমিটি সেই সিদ্ধান্তই নিয়েছেন। এটি একটি নিসন্দেহে সাহসী পদক্ষেপ। যেখানে, বালের সুশীল সমাজ ও মঈন-ফকুর সরকার সংস্কার বলে চিৎকার করছে। প্রকৃত পক্ষে এই সব বালেরা বিএনপিকে ধবংস করার চক্রান্ত করে ব্যর্থ হয়েছে।
২। স্থায়ী কমিটির এই সিদ্ধান্ত ফকু ও ১/১১ এর সমর্থকের গালে সোজাসুজি থাপ্পর। দেখুন গিয়ে মঈন-ফকু মাথা ঘুরে পড়ে গিয়েছে।
৩। খালেদা জিয়া এখন বিএনপির কমান্ড স্থানগুলোতে সৎ ও নিবেদিত নেতাকে গনতান্ত্রিক উপায়ে নির্বাচিত করে, দায়িত্বভার দিবেন।
৪। খালেদা জিয়ার উচিত হবে , বালের সুশীল সমাজের সংস্কার তত্ত্বকে ডাস্টবিনে নিক্ষেপ করা।
খালেদাকে আজীবন দলের নেতৃত্ব দেওয়ার বিষয়ে দেলোয়ার বলেন, "স্থায়ী কমিটির সদস্য চৌধুরী তানভীর আহমদ সিদ্দিকীর এ প্রস্তাব স্থায়ী কমিটি অনুমেদন করেছে।"
পরে তানভীর সাংবাদিকদের বলেন, "নির্জন কারাগারে থেকে খালেদা জিয়া আপসহীন নেত্রী হিসেবে দল ও দেশবাসীর কাছে পরিচিত হওয়ায় তাকে আজীবন নেতৃত্ব দেওয়ার এই প্রস্তাব রাখা হয়। তিনি আর কখনো মাইনাস হবেন না।"
