What i meant to say was the so called rigging in 2/3 seats were not planned by the party or government and was possibly the deed of the individual candidates.

But now rigging is planned before election, all 300 constituencies. Posting the Chhatrodol_shibir Cadres as Presiding Officers, Returning Officers, posting Obidient DCs & SPs to unfavourable districts, making bastard Aziz CEC and so on.

Your comment consisting of admiration of the style and questioning the authenticity of my writing revealed to me that you do also possess some contradiction in you. There’s nothing wrong in it. That’s how we, the humans are created with both an angelic and an evil spirits installed in us. One of these instincts leads you to trust someone and the other to distrust. You succumb to that instincts which dominates the other at that particular instant. I want to assure you that, I am not a student of literature and I didn’t write my previous posting to be literally evaluated. I was always a very bad scorer in the subjects of literatures though I had an inclination to learn more about the linguistics, which I thought would help me earning my livings in futures – an obvious poverty ridden middle class mentality. I just put the most suitable words I could recollect that time together to explain my stand or express my grievances. Nothing more than that. If you find something in my writing which has some literary value that must be more likely due to your knowledge in literature than the merit of my writing. I am an average typical middle class bangladeshi who have some beliefs in some political ideologies. But never was a recklessly loyal political activist to any party. I don’t doubt my beliefs and believe my doubts. I believe in those political ideologies which are, in my perception, better than others, or in other words, worse than the worst. I don’t believe, as I mentioned earlier, in those utopian concepts, which theorize a political system completely free of corruption and criminalizations. I aver that I never had the chance to read the book you mentioned. This is the first time I hear the name of this, in your language, propaganda book let alone copying it. But you instigated my desire now to read that book and it will be highly appreciated if you could provide me with an online version of that book.

I am really sorry to know that my latest posting shocked you due to the lack of standard you assumed to be there from my previous posting. I want to make it clear that neither of these postings was intended to impress or shock someone. Those were merely intended to surface some facts (copied from your posting, hope these are not copyrighted and you will not blame me for plagiarism) of the BAL era to help recollect the subconscious memories of the highly politically aware readers and participants of this e-mela forum so that they can compare the political parties on the eve of the upcoming general election. I am convinced that the readers and participants of this forum have their own perception about the points I mentioned in my posting and hence do not require a further explanation and/or investigations in a historical perspective.

I could not be happy to know that you hate BAL the way I do. You correctly misunderstood that I hate BAL and love BNP-JI. I simply prefer one political ideology to others depending on their activities. I strongly believe that hatred to a political party could not be a healthy political mentality. It can’t bring about any positive change to a political system but strong criticize can do. I do believe in politics and political parties are part and parcel of such a political system. I do not hate BAL rather strongly criticize their activities I dislike most. I want BAL to be the most responsible party what most the people of our country want them to be.

Learning from your childhood story, I salute the honesty and sacrifice of your father. My hats are off to him. I do believe there were and are so many awami leaders who are as honest as your father. My question is, does the current awami leadership represent that honesty and sacrifice at the national level?

Let me tell something about my parents and their sacrifices. Neither of them had any institutional certificate of traditional education. However, I found them wiser than so many educated people. They knew what education means in someone’s life. That’s why they tried their best to send all of their kids to schools and colleges with their severe financial hardship. They didn’t have any political awareness but they believed their ‘Sheikh Shaheb’s speeches as true as it could be. My father gave shelter to a group of freedom fighters at our Kachari Ghar (outdoor house for the guests) with food and all other logistic supports. My teen-age brothers used to guard the freedom fighters from potential pak military assault while they were sleeping. My father was a typical self-sufficient farmer of Bangladesh with sufficient lands and all other cultivation equipments. He used to grow all sort of crops, which are possible to cultivate locally, more than what we needed. During the famine of 1974, we had more rice in stock (gola) than we needed for the period until next harvesting season. But one day my father decided to sell all of them and he did that amid strong protest of my mother and siblings. His logic was there are so many desperately hungry people around us who needed to survive instantly. If he sell our rice to them, he thought, he could do some welfare to the society at that hard time. When my mother asked about our own welfare without any rice, he put counter logic to convince her. He told my mother that if we stock rice for our food safety it would invite theft or fatal robbery, which will jeopardize our life safety. My mother was convinced and he sold them to my neighbors at a price next to nothing. Many of them didn’t even pay by cash; they paid by working for my father in his cultivation land at their won convenience. After that we suffered a lot for food. My immediately elder brother died of anemia stemming from malnutrition. I was fortunate enough to survive because I was more dependent on breast-feeding than external food. My parents lost their beloved son and we lost our brother. More importantly, I lost my playmate. My father used to work in his lands starting from dawn and as long as he could see the soil in dusk with minimal rest. I believe he didn’t deserve such a punishment for his hard work and such a beautiful mind, which was always inclined to the welfare of the society. The story you told me and I am telling now are not something very unique to one Stranger or one Shongshoptak. I heard some similar stories from other members of this forum too. I believe all us have almost similar stories in our lives which bear the same essence – tremendous sacrifices of our parents and families for a prosperous Bangladesh. But who destroyed their dreams? Who destroyed the very basic core of social justice by accumulating the wealth for his or her own benefits leaving the whole nation to suffer from a famine? Who destroyed first the political freedom of mass people by mass rigging in 1973 election, killing thousands of political activists having different political beliefs and eventually creating BAKSAL and forcing the people to join it? Who destroyed the efforts of creating a knowledge based society by mass cheating in the public exams in 1973 and recruiting less competent awami activists in public services through BCS of 1973. I know all of these questions have some ready-made awami answers, which will try to justify the crimes happened at that time. But don’t you think that those crimes were the starting of the malignant cancer the whole nation is now suffering from? Shouldn’t we blame the then era for all of these crimes, which later on engulfed the whole society? Come on my friend. Reckon with the rationality and objectivity.

I don’t believe in those advocacies that tell Bangladesh didn’t prosper in last 37 years. I believe Bangladesh did prosper a lot in different socio-economic indices though not at a rate it was supposed to be. It’s hard for me to believe that your life is worse than ever due to your legacy to Bangladesh. From your posting, I assume you live somewhere in north America. I have an impression, stemmed from the decency and quality of your writing, that tells you are well educated and posses the quality to come here by your own virtue. Life of someone of your caliber can’t be worse than ever. If at all you struggle, you struggle not merely to secure the lives of your children but for the best possible life for them. Be optimistic my friend. We feel poor when we don’t have a television. We feel poor when we have a b/w tv and don’t have a color one. Again we feel poor if we have a color tv but don’t have a high definition plasma tv. That’s how the definition of poverty varies over time. It’s a highly relative and variable socio-economic parameter.

Now let me fulfill your demand by answering your first question. To me, the very basic of prosperity of a society is its education. Unfortunately, we did destroy that education right after we got the political freedom by liberation war and the next governments sporadically tried to put it in track with some controversial and questionable steps though. In that perspective, I feel comfortable when I see the pictures of a calm and quiet exam hall room of a public exam in the front pages of all of the national dailies instead of the pictures showing thousands of people are supplying books and other forms of copies to the candidates to cheat in the exams. I feel comfortable when I see the stories in dailies with minimal exam related irregularities instead of the stories telling the expulsion of thousands of candidates along with a significant number of invigilators who were employed to prevent the cheating in exams. I feel comfortable when I see the students started to believe that they need to study instead of cheating to pass the exams. I felt comfortable when I see the economy of the country was improving, slowly though, with respect to GDP, GNP, FOREX reserve etc. I feel comfortable when I see the expanded program of immunization (EPI) is properly implemented reducing child and maternal death rate and increasing the life expectancy of my countrymen at a better rate compared to other south Asian countries. I feel comfort when I see there is no massive irregularities in stock exchange market where the poor investors of my country, among them many of mine and your friends and family members, lost 6000 crores of taka just in one week. I feel comfort when I see the law and order situation improves significantly during that tenure compared to the previous one. These are a few of the long list, which make me feeling comfortable during the last BNP-Jamaat era. Of course, I didn’t feel comfort for so many of their steps of governance but that list is certainly a smaller one than that of Awami League.

To your second question I want to tell you one thing. Being a scientifically conscious individual, I don’t believe in any miracle. Not only the things happening around us but also the very existence of this universe is an interplay between cause and effect. As a student of science, I am supposed correlate the causes and their consequent effect to analyze any phenomenon happening around me. Only those individuals believe in miracles who can’t believe in their own capabilities. This is the very core problem of us as Bangladeshi who don’t believe in their potential rather wish for a miracle. I don’t think that if BNP-Jammat jote is voted to power again they will bring about any miracle and the nation need any miracle from them. I want them to be more scientific in reckoning their mistakes and rectify them as soon as possible. I want them to continue their good works in future and refrain from the bad ones and try to do politics for the betterment of the nation.

At the end, thank you again for opening a vent for me to disclose my thoughts and grievances to you. I do feel comfort for so many steps of the BNP-Jamaat era but I don’t feel comfort writing in this foreign language due to very minimum command of it. But I thought there’s nothing wrong to dare it.
