কৃষিমন্ত্রী বেগম মতিয়া চৌধুরী বলেছেন, কোন ষড়যন্ত্রই দেশের গণতন্ত্রকে নস্যাৎ করতে পারবে না। তিনি বলেন, গুলি করেও যে গণতন্ত্রকে খাঁচায় বন্দি করে রাখা যায়নি, সেই গণতন্ত্র নস্যাতের ষড়যন্ত্র সরকার কখনই বাস্তবায়ন হতে দিবে না। আজ নূর হোসেন চত্বরে পুস্পস্তবক অপর্ণের পর সাংবাদিকদের সাথে আলাপকালে তিনি এ কথা বলেন।
মতিয়া চৌধুরী বক্তব্য রাখলেন নুর হোসেন দিবস উপলক্ষে। অথচ স্বৈরাচারী এরশাদের ব্যাপারে তিনি কিছু বললেন না। আর বলবেনইবা কেন ? স্বৈরাচার এরশাদের সাথে তাদের সম্পর্ক তো এখন গভীর সম্পর্ক। অবশ্য এ সম্পর্ক বহু পুরনো। '৮৬-এর নির্বাচনের ব্যাপারে শেখ হাসিনা বলেছিলেন, যারা এরশাদের অধীনে নির্বাচনে অংশ নেবে তারা জাতীয় বেঈমান হিসেবে চিহ্নিত হবে। এ ঘোষণার পরদিনই তিনি আঁতাতের মাধ্যমে এরশাদের অধীনে নির্বাচনে অংশ নেন।
গণতন্ত্রের ব্যাপারে মতিয়া চৌধুরীর কথা বলা সাজে না কারণ তারাই দেশে গণতন্ত্র হত্যা করে বাকশাল কায়েম করেছিলেন। অবশ্য আওয়ামী লীগ করার আগে মতিয়া চৌধুরী শেখ মুজিবকে বঙ্গশত্রু উপাধি দিয়েছিলেন। এখন হয়তো আওয়ামী লীগ করার কারণেই শেখ মুজিব তার প্রিয় পাত্র।
মতিয়া চৌধুরীর নিজের দল আওয়ামী লীগ গণতন্ত্র হত্যাকারী, তাদের মিত্র দলও গণতন্ত্র বিরোধী , তারপরও তিনি কোন উদ্দেশ্য অন্যদের গণতন্ত্রের ছবক দেন ?
