Resveratrol is a phytoalexin naturally when attacked several plant pathogens such as bacteria or fungi. Resveratrol was also produced by chemical synthesis [1], and is sold as a dietary supplement derived primarily from Japanese knotweed. In mice and rat experiments, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, blood-sugar-lowering and other beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system on resveratrol have been reported.
