Ekushey book fair: It was a children’s day

Hundreds of children visited the "Amar Ekushey Book Fair-2009" at Bangla Academy yesterday as it was exclusively for children for four hours.

The concerned authority took all out measures to ensure extra security for the visitors.

Yesterday was the weekly holiday and the city dwellers were mela-bound. The fair was open for four hours especially for children. The children's hours were from 11:00am to 3:00pm and from 3.00pm to 9.00 it was open for all. An art competition for children was held at the fair in the morning on the occasion.

A total of 232 new books hit the stalls at the fair yesterday. These include 46 story books, 35 novels, three on science fiction, eleven on essay collections, 51on poetry collections, seven on research, 18 on child literatures, four on politics, six on liberation war, eleven on science, three on politics, four on history and others.

The prominent writers wrote new books, which hit the stalls yesterday are Alok Pulak Shiharon by Al Mahmud from Jingeful Prokash, Soindakal by Syed Shamsul Haque from Ekushey Bangla Prokashan, Joy Bangla by Muntasir Mamun from Subarna Publication, Ekattor O Onnanoy Probondha by Abul Asad from Lekha Prokash, Mutku Mamar Guenda Ovijan by Anisul Haque from Mizan Publishers, Fulkonnaya by Imdadul Haque Milon from Balaka Publication, Chakma Lukoshahitta by Nandalal Sharma from Suchipatra Prokashan and Bangali Sonskritir Chinta by Abul Kashem Fazlul Haque from Kotha Prokash.

Most of the visitors preferred to browse new books at the fair on the 6th day to buying them.

In the Nazrul Mancha of the fair, different new arrivals were unveiled.

The regular seminar on "Potential Bangladesh" as part of a month-long series and cultural function were held.
