Alliance Francaise de Dacca has chalked out a number of cultural programmes all through the year to mark its 50th year presence in Dhaka.
The cultural programmes will start through an exhibition held from 19th February to 5th March, designed by two major French photographers, which include photograph of Dhaka city and its people on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the vibrant city.

Ms Saliha Lefevre, Director of Alliance Francaise de Dacca said in a press conference held in the city yesterday. Mr Jacques Bounin, Deputy Director of the organisation and two French artists were present at the press conference.
The year-long programmes include: photography exhibition on Dhaka city and its people in February, festival of Francophonie in March, French Drama festival in April, concert of Simeo, the famous French artist in 13 April, concert of Calcutta String Quartet on high western classic music in May, concerts on world music day on 21st June, Dance of Accrorap, the French hip hop company in July, exhibition on Indian princes and Parisian jewellers from 22 October to 4 November, concert of Paban Das Baul, renowned Bangladesh artist living in France in October, Open air concert in November and closing ceremony in December.
Alliance Française was founded in 1883 in Paris, with the objectives of reinforcing friendship and solidarity between people through the promotion of the French language and cultural projects.
Currently, the international network of Alliance Française is composed of 1,062 not-for-profit institutions in 132 countries, which are operated under local legislation and are managed by a committee made up of prominent personalities in respective countries.
Alliance Française de Dacca, sometimes referred as French Cultural Center here in Bangladesh, is a centre for education and culture, which has been serving the country since 1959. The main function of this institution is to promote the French culture, especially the French language to the local people and to promote the local culture in France.
Like all the Alliance Françaises in the world Alliance Française de Dacca too is run by an executive committee formed by some local elites who are enthusiast of the French culture.
