I will start with the cover itself: "Drunken driving, unlicensed shotgun and Joy." The story doesn't mention anything about a shotgun, but near the end of the story, it states:

On June 14 1998, Joy was arrested in Tarrant County, Texas. He was charged on two counts of carrying an unlicensed handgun and one count of driving while intoxicated. He was convicted for drunken driving and was imprisoned for 120 days, sentenced to 24 months of probation and fined $500.There is no other gun incident in the report. So which was it, a shotgun or a handgun? By the way, carrying a shotgun in Texas is not against the law, and DOES NOT require a license, unless it is in a school, or a bar/liquor store, etc. So I the rest of the report is accurate, the title on the cover page is inaccurate. And that is only the beginning.

Then further down we see stories about Joy wanting to marry his girlfriend from school, and his mother breaking it off because the girl refused to convert to Islam. Then it talks about his current wife, who allegedly was once married to someone else, and it also talks about possible unrest in Joy's married life. How is this at all relevant to the story about "Drunken Driving, Unlicensed Gun, and Joy"?

He used a fixed-rate mortgage and paid only about 200 thousand dollars (20 percent of the value) in cash. This was a clever move as it hid the real value of the property in terms of cash.The bolds in the above quote are mine. A quick primer for our Bangladeshi readers: very few people in the USA can afford to buy a house for cash. 20% down payment used to be typical, but now it is possible to get mortgages with zero down payments. There is no question of hiding the real property value: all real estate sales are public records. Before editorializing with the the "clever move" phrase, I wish the reported had called or emailed a friend or relative in the USA to check this.

Now note the phrase "His wife is not a co-owner." I don't know why that was relevant, but already distrusting the probe report, I decided to fact-check. As far as the Fairfax County Office of Tax Administration, Real Estate Division, is concerned, the current owners are WAZED, SAJEEB and WAZED, KRISTINE O--and they should know: they bill Mr. and Mrs. Wazed for the real estate taxes. Feel free to search for the information yourself. This is from the 2006 tax roll, so Joy could not have changed it after the Probe report was published. As you can see, the search result itself was free--I did not spend a penny on it. Anyone looking for this information can find it. Could the inaccuracy, then, come from someone who was not looking? Why would not the Bangladeshi media do this due diligence themselves?

It is bad enough if our reporters do such a bad job of fact checking. But if my hunch is correct, and if this information is being fed to Probe by some intelligence agency, their shoddy research is cause for concern to all of us as tax payers. At least send him back from the cushy overseas posting in the Washington embassy to some village in Bangladesh.

On to poor Putul (literally) and her husband! A house worth $245,000 in Jacksonville, Florida is not "considerable property" by any stretch. But if they owned all 3 simultaneously, (actually, the banks holding the mortgages would but lets ignore that for a moment) that would mean, gasp, almost 1 million dollars. Big deal.

OK, Probe and Amader Shomoy, and the men feeding them this troll-bait: listen up. There is no story in Joy and Putul's houses. If they purchased the houses with CASH, now that would be a story. And what is Putul doing in a story about Joy any way?

What of the drunk driving and reckless driving? They may very well be true. But at this point, with unnecessary personal attacks and with a number of erroneous assertions, the accuracy of the whole story, and the motive behind it, are now questionable.
