Senior journalist Foyez Ahmed joined the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Friday 'to make Bangladesh a socialist state', reports bdnews24.com.

"I have joined the CPB as socialism is the only way to eradicate all the crises the country facing at the moment," he said.

"People cannot get over the crises without the leftist politics which can be a counterweight to the sort of politics devoid of principles and ideals," he added.

He also said he had struggled for life for an oppression-free Bangladesh through the institution of socialism in society.

He formally joined the party at the party's national council meeting in the afternoon after the central committee of CPB approved his membership upon his appeal.

President Manzurul Ahsan Khan, general secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim and other senior leaders welcomed Foyez, said a press release.
