UZ polls could be fairer: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda today said the overall situation during the Upazila polls was satisfactory but it could be better.

"The voting in the upazila elections was satisfactory in terms of overall situation. But it was not that good. It could be better," the CEC said at a press briefing at the EC Secretariat.

He revealed that of the total 481 upazilas, gazette of the 446 would be published by tomorrow where total turnout was 68.32 percent.

Huda also pointed out short distance between the national elections, held on December 29 last year, and the upazila elections and the failure of the EC officials involved in the polling process for not fully satisfactory turnout.
