UNB, DHAKA: Twenty two suspected 'rajakars' were sued yesterday Satkhira and Gaibandha districts on charges of killing freedom fighters and looting their houses during the War of Liberation in 1971.
In Satkhira, one Sattar Gazi son of Jurman Gazi of Munshiganj village in Shyamnagar upazila filed a case with the district Chief Judicial Magistrate Court against 17 suspected rajakars.
The accused are Mansur Ali Sarker, Sarder Mohiuddin Gazi, Israfil Mollah and Quddus Mollah of Munshiganj village, Mohsinul Mulk, Mujid Gazi and Ahad Khan, of Iswaripur, Mohammad Ali Gazi, M Habibullah Mollah, Ansar Mollah and Mujibar Gazi of Shrifal, Abul Hoosain Gazi of Abadchandipur village, Surat Ali Gazi, Ahmed Sheikh and Hayet Ali Gazi of Dhumghat, Rajat Ali Gazi of Bangshipur and Abdul Aziz of Tarinapur village.
After receiving the case, the court asked the OC of the local police station to take necessary steps for investigation.
According to the case statement, the accused swooped on the houses of freedom fighters, including the plaintiff, in the upazila and looted valuables from those houses on July 25, 1971.
Later, they also picked the plaintiff and Moshin Gazi, Rahman Gazi, Mantej Gazi, Shamsur Sardar, Rastup Sardar, Biswa Gazi, Golam Mostafa, Haran Sardar, Kena Gazi, Bahar Ali, Shamsu Gazi, Mohar Ali Moroal, Nasir Mollah and Hanif Mollah near a river.
The criminals freed Sattar Gazi and few others but gunned down 11 of them.
In Gaibandha, one Abdur Rouf Akandh at Nandina village in Sadar upazila filed a case with the district Chief Judicial Magistrate Court against five rajakars for killing freedom fighters and attacking their houses.
In the case statement, he said Abdul Zabbar, Khoka, Abdul Wahed and Mamtaj Ali Bepari of Nandi village and Asgar Ali Khan of Bishnupur village in the upazila killed 15 freedom fighters in Nandi village and destroyed their houses on October 18, 1971.
Receiving the case, the court directed the local OC to take necessary action in this regard after investigation and asked him to submit the report by July 16.
