Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today blamed the past BNP-Jamaat alliance government for the erratic power and water crises of the country and sought some time to solve the problems.

“The present power crisis created by the BNP-led four-party alliance government now comes on our shoulder. They had spent Tk 20,000 crore to generate electricity, but could not generate a single megawatt power. They have plundered thousands of crores of taka and siphoned off the money ---asked them where they have kept the people’s money. They have to return the money,” Hasina told a huge rally at historic Paltan Maidan this afternoon.
The premier said the government will amend the labour policy in line with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Convention and ensure rationing system for all labourers in phases.
She said her government will open the closed mills and factories, if necessary, and run those in partnership with the workers.
Hasina said they will fix minimum wage of workers keeping consistency with the market price so that they do not face difficulties to maintain their lives.
Hasina, also president of the ruling Awami League, was addressing the rally amid unprecedented security measures including bullet proof glass fitted on the lectern and on almost the entire length of the front stage where she sat through the rally.

Jatiya Shramik League, the labour front of the AL, organised the rally to mark the historic May Day.
She sought support of all to strengthen the democracy of the county in the wake of 'conspiracies' against the grand alliance government and the people.
There are widespread conspiracies in the country since the government came to power less than four months ago. "I seek your cooperation to foil the conspiracies."
