AL ward-level leaders to head local pry school bodies

The ruling Awami League is to henceforth nominate its local party presidents and secretaries at ward levels as chairman and vice chairman of the managing committees of the government and registered primary schools.

A circular to this effect is likely to be issued by the ministry of primary and mass education shortly for reconstituting the existing 11-member school managing committees in each government and registered primary schools with induction of local AL leaders, reliable sources in the ministry said yesterday.

The grass root-level leaders of the ruling party will be included in the managing committees of such schools as 'enlightened educationists' while the members or councilors of the local wards will be included as members of the committee, the sources added. Head masters or acting head masters of the concerned schools will continue to be member secretary of the 11-member committee, according to the draft of the circular.

A high official of the primary and mass education ministry yesterday told The Independent that the tenure of the reconstituted managing committees would be three years. "The committees would be reconstituted for improving the quality teaching of the teachers of such primary schools," he added. During the period of the Fakhrudding-led caretaker government, primary school managing committees were reconstituted respective nominating local administration officials as committee chiefs.
