Int’l trade expo for women entrepreneurs begins in city

A six-day international trade show, mainly focusing businesses operated by women entrepreneurs, began at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city on Monday.

Deputy leader of the Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury inaugurated the fair which mainly eyed Eid sales in the city. Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka has organised the exposition styled ‘Dosti Women Entrepreneur Trade Expo (WETEX) 2009.’ MIDAS Financing, BRAC, SME Foundation, and Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry are among the organisers while Bank Alfalah remains the lead sponsor.

Business from Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and China are showcasing their products and services at 125 stalls at the fair. Apparel items, fabrics, carpets, utensils, handicrafts, cuisines for iftar, gems and jewellery, bangles and ladies bags are among the products displayed at the show. Bangladesh Design Council organised an awareness-raising programme against uterus cancer and a fashion show in the fair.
