Geeteara family held in house grab case

Police arrested former MP Nazim Kamran Choudhury, husband of former caretaker adviser Geeteara Safiya Choudhury, along with two close relatives on Thursday, on charges of forcible occupation of a Gulshan property.

House owners Dr Mahbubul Islam and wife Farhana Islam filed a case with Gulshan police naming 11 people, including Geeteara and businessman husband Nazim, accusing them of forcible occupation of the property at 7/A, Road No 41, Gulshan-2.

Gulshan police chief Kamrul Alam Mollah told bdnews24.com that Nazim, his younger brother Mukim Choudhury and the Choudhury couple's son-in-law Adit Bhagat, were arrested from Gulshan-1 at around 11.30pm. Mollah said police were also looking for the other accused.

The Islam couple had filed a similar case before with the Dhaka District and Sessions Judge's Court in November 2007 accusing the Choudhury's advertising firm Adcomm and a security firm, Group 4 Securities, of illegal occupation.

The complainants said their tenants and others had been occupying the Islams', after the expiry of a five-year rental agreement. But the court quashed the case on Jan 25 2008, on the basis of a report by the investigating officer saying the allegation was "not proved".

Gulshan police sub inspector Masud Karim, also investigation officer in the new case, said the Islam couple filed their complaint with police this time as they had been "too scared" to do so under the past caretaker government, according to the FIR.

I meant to say "wasn't successful enough", Mr. Farmer

In that posting I meant to say the CTG "wasn't successful enough". But the header line went big and the system max-ed out to complete the full sentence, Mr. Farmer, and hence I removed the last partial word of "enough", (but wrote it in the text body, if you pls. read carefully).

I also think CTG was successful in quite a few cases. The excellent voter list with photo Id was probably the best of it. But in some other cases it could have easily gone beyond what it did. They had full support from almost entire BD behind them in initial months. But accomplishments on many major issues were too little, too lengthy, unnecessarily. Some "do-nothing fellow", and some terribly communal advisors were the main reason behind those things.

advisors

Regardless of CG's sucess of failure, Geeteara should already be in jail to be fair. Being a sitting advisor, she cannot grab others propertry. This is one example. Her relatives are already freed on bail. Why police did not ask for remand like they do for other criminals? Then we would know some of the misdeeds she, her familiy and relatives did while she was in power.

GoodWishes: Last CG was successful, in my opinion

The last CG was diff from other CG in many ways, we all know it. Depending on the benchmark, people will see diff results & level of success.
The basic responsibility was to conduct a fair electin, it happened. The rests, what we got, or other people got are extra.
In last 38 yrs., close to 50,000 people have taken over this country; these people are extremely corrupted, ruthless and illegaly powerful.
When 1/11 happened, these 50,000 people got sudden shock, they became disarray. But with time, they rearraged themselves & slowly brought their control back.
Yes, I agree with with that few advisors were really low skilled. I had chances to know Dr. Iftekhar Hossain, just good for running his own family.
I personally believe, Moeen did things slowly; he could do lot better if he could finish the business in the shock period.

One of the reasons why past caretaker govt. wasn't successful

In ideal definition, "Politics is a place for courage and conviction". A person who wants to truly bring change or at least influence in positive sense must have strong will force, strong commitment.

One of the reasons why past CTG wasn't successful enough was to include persons like Geeti Ara in its advisory committee. I found no commitment, no dedication in her. She appeared just to be some high society fashion lady. What is her quality or past history? She, Bar. Moinul, Iftekhar Chowdhury, Mej. Gen. Matin etc. were the poor choices of past govt. They were either aloof to do some real change in BD or tried to impose unacceptable "equality" in politics due to their political allegiance and thereby diffusing the whole process.
