Aggrieved leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), student wing of BNP, Wednesday brought out a 'coffin procession' on the Dhaka University (DU) campus to protest against the expulsion of four leaders of its Dhaka University unit.
Top leaders of the newly-formed central committee of JCD dissolved three units, including DU committee, expelling four leaders Monday night for their protests against the central leadership. During the demonstration, the JCD activists chanted slogans against the decision and vowed to continue their protest against the new leadership.
Saiful Islam Firoz, expelled general secretary of JCD DU committee, told reporters that the field-level JCD workers had always stood by the party when it faced any crisis in the past. "Those who organised the issuance of our expulsion orders were not actively involved in any programme of the party whenever it faced tough challenges," he said.
Describing the expulsion order as 'undemocratic and conspiratorial', Firoz said such decision would do harm to JCD politics and tarnish its image as well. Several hundred aggrieved JCD supporters protested on the campus on July 1, when the new central committee was announced. Four expelled leaders of JCD DU unit were vice-president Mamunur Rashid, general secretary Saiful Islam Firoz, organising secretary Sadiul Islam Nirab and joint secretary Akram Hossain.
