The government today decided to withdraw 69 cases against Awami League leaders filed in seven years of the four-party alliance government and the caretaker government since the cases were 'motivated.'
Of the cases, 56 are under the penal code and 13 under the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Act, State Minister for Law Quamrul Islam told reporters after a meeting at the secretariat.
Among the cases to be withdrawn, one is against Tofail Ahmed, Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir and Akhtaruzzaman Babu each, four are against former state minister for power and energy Rafiqul Islam, two against daily Janakantha Editor Atiqullah Khan Masud and three against AL lawmaker Maqbul Hossain.
Quamrul said the government had received recommendations for 2,584 cases claimed to be motivated and 209 cases were placed at the meeting today. The state minister said 92 cases would be reviewed and sent back and 48 cases would be placed at the next meeting.
Quamrul said they did not get any recommendation to withdraw the cases against BNP leaders. He said they asked the public prosecutor (PP) to send the 'motivated' cases against opposition leaders. The government had recommended that 243 cases be withdrawn in the fourth phase including 12 against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

bd08: I believe Moeen did right things.
bd08: Moeen saw how illegally he was appointed the chief; he wanted to punish the wrong doers.
Apprx 50,000 highly corrupted people took over our limited resouces, somebody had to start somewhre, Moeen started. One cannot punish all at one time.
Moeens efforts ended due to the unmanageable pressure of low rank officers supporting Khaleda Mojumder.
Hasina, Khaleda cannot solve the huge financial problem of BD people. Thanks God, they do not understand problems of that level,; so, they can sleep well.We had to compete with nations mostly in better conditions than us.
Hasina rushing toward her end, that is what we are observing.
Because of natural reasons BD people will find better way of survival, we are at the bottom, no where to go, but up.

Laws only for non AL people? Boot laws may help the PM
Looks like, BD laws are not applicable for AL people anymore, laws are only for non AL citizens.
AL found that if Hasina can become PM with 16 cases and those cases are withdrawn why to bother with laws at all. The state minister for law also working accordingly.
AL people do not like book laws anymore, probably, they need boot laws from the cantonment.
