Women movement leader Hena Das passes away

Veteran women movements leader and Communist Party of Bangladesh central committee member Hena Das, 85, died on Monday morning at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University hospital.

Ruhin Hossain Prince, CPB central committee member, told bdnews24.com over telephone that she died at 11:30am. Her body will be cremated after her daughter arrives from Germany, Prince said. The body will now be kept in a mortuary.

Ruhin added that Hena was a member of CPB's control commission, prior to which she had been a member of the CPB Politburo. She had been a pioneer joining anti-British demonstrations and political movements, subsequently taking part in all secular democratic movements in an independent country. A forerunner in all women's liberation movements, Hena Das was also a teacher.

Das suffering for long from senility complications was admitted to LabAid Hospital on July 18, a CPB press release said on Sunday. After showing slight improvement of her condition, Hena fell again seriously ill on Sunday morning, when she was shifted to the BSMMU hospital. Das left two daughters behind, who are both doctors and well wishers.
