AL pledges to punish Pilkhana carnage mastermind

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today reiterated that the Awami League-led grand alliance is committed to ensuring an exemplary punishment to those who were behind the February 25-26 Bangladesh Riffles carnage.

Whoever involved in the brutal massacre will be given exemplary punishment,” LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Syed Ashraful Islam told reporters quoting Hasina.

On a query of the AL's stance over the BNP's absence in the House, the minister said, " We urge the opposition to join the budget session because the government wants to make parliament effective by working with the opposition."

Hasina, also the Awami League chief, said this while presiding over the AL Central Working Committee (ALCWC) meeting held at the party Dhanmondi office.

Ashraful said, AL also formed a committee making Deputy Leader of the Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury as convenor to celebrate its 60th founding anniversary (Diamond Jubilee) on June 23.

The meeting also discussed on holding the party council soon followed by the party constitution review, he added.

During the meeting, Ashraf said, the committee expressed its satisfaction over government initiatives to reduce prices of essentials, fertiliser and diesel.

“The committee also thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for successfully handling the BDR crisis,” Ashraful added.
