BNP conspiring to make parliament dysfunctional: AL

Key Awami League leaders have said that after their failure to create unrest through a civil war in the country, the BNP is now hatching conspiracy to make the ninth parliament ineffective and dysfunctional.

Calling upon the opposition to shun politics of conspiracy and confrontation, they urged them to join the House proceedings to give democracy an institutional shape.

They were addressing a party organised discussion on 'Historic June 7' at Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre (BCFCC) on Sunday afternoon.

The Awami League President and Premier Sheikh Hasina was scheduled to preside over the meeting but in absence of her the deputy leader in House Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury chaired the discussion.

"Plot still persists to eliminate Sheikh Hasina in many ways. A vested quarter is hatching conspiracy against this government. But no plotting would be able to destroy this democratic government as well as the Awami League as a political party which brought country's independence and sovereignty," observed AL presidium member Amir Hossain Amu MP urging the partymen to remain united to build up a 'Digital Bangladesh' under efficient leadership of the Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of the father of nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Referring to the historic six-point demand of 1966, he termed it a freedom-charter of the people of the country that inspired the 1971 Liberation War under AL leadership.

Another presidium member Abdur Razzak MP also cautioned AL leaders and activists about the deep-rooted conspiracy of the forces defeated in the Liberation War.

Lauding Sheikh Hasina leadership, the veteran party leader said, "Sheikh Hasina started to complete the unfinished tasks of her father Bangabandhu to build up a happy, prosperous and hunger-free Bangladesh."

AL presidium member Tofail Ahmed MP was very critical about the role of the BNP in the parliament and outside of the House.

"The history was distorted many times in different ways. It's the first time in Bangladesh that some seven MPs belonging to the opposition - who got only 30 seats - were made chairmen of the seven parliamentary standing committees," he mentioned.

Party presidium member Suranjit Sengupata said, "As long as Sheikh Hasina is alive and Awami League continues it activities across the country, the war criminals will be tried."

About Pakistan's remarks on this issue, the veteran lawyer said, "Don't poke your nose in our internal affairs. It will be completed as per the existing laws. Besides, it was AL's election pledge and also endorsed by the first session in the ninth parliament."

He also expressed his dissatisfaction over the progress of the trial process by the government.

About the much-talked-about Tipaimukh embankment, Suranjit blasted the BNP's remark saying "Agreement was signed during BNP regime but they are trying to blame AL chief Sheikh Hasina."
