Better Business Forum to replace RRC

Finance Minister AMA Muhith on Sunday said the Better Business Forum (BBF) would be restructured and strengthened to take the place of the Regularity Reforms Commission (RRC). “RRC does not exist at this moment. We want to strengthen BBF,” he said after a meeting with Rachel Kyte, vice-president, Business Advisory Service of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) at his finance ministry office.

The finance minister said the government wants to take up the reform initiative, which was taken earlier by the RRC in a different way. He said the Better Business Forum would place the reform suggestions to the government. After getting the suggestions from the BBF, the government would form a taskforce to scrutinize the suggestions. About the issues discussed with IFC vice-president, Muhith said he urged the IFC to increase their sub-contracting and to provide assistance for setting up special economic zone in Bangladesh.

The minister said he also asked the IFC to enhance assistance in social sectors apart from their existing assistance in communication and energy sectors. “As RRC does not exist at this moment, we decided to strengthen BBF,” Muhith said. RRC chairman Dr Akbar Ali Khan resigned from the post recently. Rachel Kyte said after the meeting that they had discussed about promoting SMEs, provide quality job, public-private partnership and to bring the private sector in energy and health sector. They also discussed about the future Bond market.
