Dhaka, Sunday, November 1, 2009 - 8:46pm Professor Mohammed Afzal Hossain stepped down on Sunday as chairman of tourism and hospitality management department of Dhaka University over alleged sex scandal.
He resigned after students of his department accused him with sexual harassment of a student. He sent in his resignation letter to the office of vice chancellor at around 4:30pm. DU vice chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique told that he received the resignation letter.
Earlier professor Hossain told the media, "A big gang is conspiring against me. I am quitting because I will not be able to finally survive in the face of the conspiracy."
Recently, students of the department staged protest rallies and held news conference demanding resignation of the chairman on charges of sexual harassment. Professor Hossain became chairman on May 10, 2009.

আপনার সাথে একমত হতে পারলাম না। উন্নত বিশ্বের কোন শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানে কোন শিক্ষকের বিরুদ্ধে কোন অভিযোগ উঠলে সংশ্লিষ্ট শিক্ষকের পদত্যাগের মাধ্যমেই এর নিস্পত্তি ঘটে না।কোন অভিযোগ উঠলে তা উপযুক্ত তদন্তের মাধ্যমে পুরো ব্যাপারের মিমাংশা হয়। কিন্ত আমাদের দেশের বেলায় সব কিছুই উলটো।
উপড়ের টপিকে আদৌতেই কি ঘটেছে তা বলা মুশকিল।শিক্ষকটিকেই ফাশানো হয়েছে কিনা কে জানে! আমার বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পড়া অবস্থায় মনে আছে ইকনমিক্সের এক নবীন টিচারকে কিছূ দলীয় সন্ত্রাসী মেরে ফেলে।কিন্তু পত্র পত্রিকায় সেই টিচারকে ভিন্নভাবে উপস্থাপন করা হয়। যে দেশে সর্বত্র মিথ্যাচার, অসততা ও দুর্নীতির জয় জয়কার সেখানে সৎ , অসৎের ফারাক নিরুপন বড়ই দুরুহ।
বুদ্ধিমানের মতো কাজ
অভিযোগ সত্য হোক আর না হোক পদত্যাগ করে বুদ্ধিমানের মতো কাজ করেছেন।বিদেশের এই ধারা দেশেও চালু হওয়া উচিত।
