Tongi violence :BGMEA senses sabotage

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association has sensed a campaign of industrial sabotage in Saturday’s protests of garment workers at Tongi, which, its leaders have said, was aimed at crowding out the country of the global clothing market. At a hurriedly-called press conference attended by two members of the parliament, who are also the factory owners, the association leaders Saturday censured some online news services for airing reports of workers’ deaths, which police did not confirm.

The industry owners’ club defended the Nippon Garment owner, who had abruptly closed down the unit sparking workers’ protest. ‘We are sensing an act of sabotage behind the destruction and lawlessness at Tongi this morning,’ BGMEA president Abdus Salam Murshedy said. Tipu Munshi MP, a former president of the association and Israfil Ahmed MP, a member, shared similar observations. Tipu said he had immediately contacted the SP of Gazipur who was quoted in the death news aired by some online news services. ‘The SP said he did not say anything such.’

Circulating news of deaths of workers is very sensitive and enough to infuriate the mob, said Tipu. ‘The situation could turn even worse.’ Only one out of 14 injured people taken to hospital was a worker of Nippon Garment, the former BGMEA chief cited to substantiate his doubt that ‘some vested interest quarters have instigated workers.’ Israfil Ahmed MP urged the government to remain cautious against ‘local agents of foreign elements’ that might have been working to create unrest in Bangladesh’s garment industry. Due to global market recession, many foreign elements are in a frantic move to grab Bangladesh’s share in the global apparel market, he said without elaborating.

The BGMEA president pointed out that despite having inadequate orders Nippon was continuing its operation by taking subcontract jobs from other factories. The factory owner was obliged to notify one month’s leave to factory workers at the eleventh hour as a transport company captured three lots of fabrics of Nippon, which failed to pay Tk 20 lakh in bill arrears, Murshedy argued. Even then, Nippon did not owe its workers any due wages and the factory notified its workers to receive October salary on November 10. Although they admitted that Nippon owner did not inform the BGMEA of the abrupt closure of the factory, both Murshedy and Tipu defended the factory owner’s notification of one month’s leave for all workers. Israfil Ahmed, however, pointed to a legal grey area and said it was not legally binding on factory owners to inform any authority in advance of closure. ‘I think the law should be amended,’ said the lawmaker.

Since violence is a matter of

Since violence is a matter of perception as well as a measurable phenomenon, psychologists have found variability in whether people perceive certain physical acts as 'violent'.mcitp required tests For example, in a state where execution is a legalised punishment we do not typically perceive the executioner as 'violent', though we may talk, in a more metaphorical way, of the state acting violently.mcdst training Likewise understandings of violence are linked to a perceived aggressor-victim relationship: hence psychologists have shown that people may not recognise defensive use of force as aggressive or violent at all, even in cases where the amount of force used is significantly greater than in the original aggression.Riane Eisler, who describes early cooperative, itil test egalitarian societies (she coins the term "gylanic", as it is widely agreed that the term matriarchal is inaccurate), and Walter Wink, who coined the phrase “the myth of redemptive violence,” suggest that human violence, especially as organized in groups, is a phenomenon of the last five to ten thousand years.

Brainless idiot do not understand urgency

The PM told the garment owners to find out reasons of dissatisfactions among workers. Last few yrs. the owners were blaming some so called "foreign agents". She is not understanding the urgency of ongoing conflicts and destructions already done.
Government have to identify the causes of dissatisfactions and solutions, and then bring the disputing parties to the table.
The idiot delegating her responsibilities to one of the disputing parties.

Farmers or slaves?

"The farmers are the backbone of the nation", is it still true in BD? If one acre agro land cost avg. 15 lakhs or more, what will be the return from the land, will it be profitable?
Due to over population, per head agro land has decreased to such an amount, one cannot take cultivation as means of income.
The farmers in the West, North West and the North have become the slaves of the local Shylocks, inrest rates upto 100% per months on capital. The govs played silent role celebrating "pitha" weeks in Sonar Gaon.

Hard working agro workers are landless; those who have land, they do not get return. People who do not do farming are buying lands with remittance money.

The 70% people connected to the lands are farmers or financial slaves?

VHZ: Trying to find out the reasons

I believe in discipline; if the workers have to talk to the owners, assoc, or the gov, they must talk in a table and negotiate their rights.
I am also wondering, why workers on the street? Are not the gov or owners listenng to them?
One thing, I am not seeing the Industral Minister's role anywhere, he is not inviting the workers or owners to settle it.
Destructions of properties in poor country should not be tolerated, thats true; but is anybody from the gov giving them a chance to talk about their problems?

Modern day financial slaves of BD

Any protest: for minimum salary, working conditions, benefits, or arrear payments by garments' workers was high lighted by BGMEA as destruction effort by foreign agents.
If foreign agents really trying to destroy our garments and use workers' dissatisfaction as tool, will our illiterate workers understand it?

Who is responsible to find out the real reasons behind these violent protests, dissatisfactions, or destruction efforts by forein agents?

I think Dilip Barua is the person. Moreover Dilip Barua is from the so called leftist group, who are said to be experts in labor movement. I am not seeing him anywhere.

From 1980, garment owners enjoyed huge margin of profit; did they pay the workers bare minimum to survive in expensive Dhaka city? Answer is no.
If one carefully analyze the financial side of the garment workers, their represantations in administrations, one will conclude that these people are modern day financial slaves.
