A DGFI official was caught "infiltrating" Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Detective Branch office on Tuesday. The intelligence officer was detained by the police. Although he was later released, Detective Branch police expressed their annoyance at his illegal entry.
Officers in charge of security at the DB office told bdnews24.com that DGFI assistant sub-inspector, Md Enayet Hossain (ID card number: 0200619), hoodwinked his way into the premises. After some time, the security men questioned his identity. At one point, Enayet said he had entered "to gather information about Taposh's case", according to the Detective Branch officials. A top Detective Branch officer said, "It was not lawful for a defence intelligence officer to penetrate into a Detective Branch office in this way, without any prior notice." "He should have contacted us first.
After all, we often have dealings with DGFI in our regular work," the officer added. He said the DB office was busy Tuesday, after recovery of a huge haul of stolen motor parts and car owners were coming into the office to identify their stolen parts. "The DGFI man could have slipped in with them," he said. Visitors usually need to register their name to enter a Detective Branch office, and to meet a particular official, permission is required from the official's end. The DB officer said assistant sub-inspectors would be replaced by sub-inspectors to guard the gate after Tuesday's incident.
