Rule of law triumphs over injustice: Amirul

Noted jurist barrister Amirul Islam on Thursday said at least the rule of law has triumphed over injustice and misrule after the long struggle for 34 years through the historic judgment given by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court in the Bangabandhu murder case. "The judgment would bury the culture of impunity perpetrated by the forces of traitors in darkness," Amirul Islam said.

Amirul, who is in London, told BSS over phone that the historic judgment would uphold the Constitution and the justice delivery system, which was held as 'captive hostage' all these years. He said the killing of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with his family members followed by the killings of four national leaders in jail custody, has created a series of deep wounds in our history. "This retarded the growth and progress of Bangladesh", he said adding that the judgment would undoubtedly help the country to begin the process of healing and reuniting on the basis of the rule of law.

Besides, the jurist said constitutional governance to be further reinforced through the initiation of the proper trials and punishments of the perpetrators of the genocide committed in 1971, jail killings of 1975, grenade attack of 21st August 2004, BDR massacre early this year and all other atrocities. "Let us all unanimously and unequivocally say 'No' to the forces of murder, genocide, terrorism and subversion of any kind," Barrister Amirul Islam appealed to all and urged them to devote themselves wholeheartedly in establishing Sonar Bangla as dreamt by the Father of the Nation.
