Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today said the government will take necessary measures to stop use of children in political activities as they are often used for it. "Children would be aware of politics but should not be used in the political activities," the prime minister said while inaugurating a programme on the occasion of World Children's Day and Child Rights Week 2009.

Women and Children Affairs Ministry organised the programme at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the city. In her inaugural speech, the premier said her government is committed to take measures to address the issue properly as mental growth of children those involved in the political activities are affected and they often become victims of violence. Sheikh Hasina also asked the ministry concerned to take special project to ensure the rights of children with disabilities as they are always deprived of their rights in the society.
The prime minister called upon the people from all strata of life to come forward to ensure their rights as it is not possible for the government alone to address the issue. "People from all walks of life have responsibility to do something for the betterment of children as they are the future leaders of the country," she added. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also expressed her government's determination to take steps in building a congenial atmosphere for the children so that they could be ideal citizen of the country and compete globally.
