Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan today said the death of criminals in 'shootout' with law enforcers does not amount to violation of human rights. He said the deaths in shootout helped curb extortion and criminal activities.

Shahjahan Khan said no criminal except Ershad Shikder could be brought under justice so far, and suggested that the administration take tough action against the criminals. He was speaking at the inauguration of reversible gear assembling in small motorized river vessels at Mary Anderson Floating Restaurant at Fatulla Pagla in Narayanganj on the occasion of the World Maritime Day.
